Five finals were down for decision on Tuesday night at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Irish interest was in the women’s 500m final where Sarah Healy finished in fourth place behind Nadia Battocletti of Italy, Spain’s Marta Garcia and another Italian, Micol Majori.
Bence Halász of Hungary won the men’s hammer throw with a best effort of 84.25m with his fifth effort. It was a new National Record and a World Leading throw in 2026 for the 29-year-old.
Silver went to Merlin Hummel of Germany. His best throw of 81.30m also came in the fifth round.
Mykhaylo Kokhan from Ukraine claimed the bronze medal, with a best of 79.49m.
Gold again for Tentoglou of Greece
Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece won his fourth consecutive European title in the men’s long jump. Consistent 8m-plus efforts in all round, saw his fourth round effort of 8.44m win the gold medal. Swiss Simon Ehammer won silver with a jump of 8.29m, with bronze going to Bozhidar Sarâboyuko of Bulgaria for his 8.26m jump in round six.
Narrow margin win for Visser
Nadine Visser of The Netherlands took gold in a thrilling final of the women’s 40m hurdles. Only .001 divided the winner and runner-up, with Visser clocking 12.77 seconds (.668) with Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska having to settle for silver with a time of 12.77 seconds (.669). Both were clear of Laeticia Bapté from France, who completed the podium.
British 1-2 in men’s 100m final
The last final of Tuesday evening’s session saw a 1-2 for the host nation, Britain. Romell Glave got the better of his compatriot, Jeremiah Azu to take the title, with Owen Ansah of Germany winning the bronze. Glave’s winning time was 10.09 seconds as opposed to Aku’s 10.16 seconds, while Ansah stopped the clock at 10.19 seconds.
