After Isaac Slade’s surprise performance at Ed Sheeran’s Atlanta show, he and American Idol’s Brooks Rosser will join him on several more dates.
Isaac Slade of The Fray surprised fans by first joining Ed Sheeran on his Loop Tour stop at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 3, and now the artist will be joining him on several more North American dates. In addition to Slade, American Idol finalist Brooks Rosser joined the “Shape of You” singer at his Indianapolis show over the weekend.
The “How to Save a Life” singer took to Instagram to announce that he would open for Sheeran at four shows: October 10 at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis; October 17 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC; October 24 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX; and November 7 at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL.
“See you out there,” the 45-year-old Slade wrote on Instagram in announcing the dates.
The 23-year-old Rosser confirmed he would be joining Sheeran and Slade in Indianapolis on October 10. He made it to the Top 7 on American Idol’s Season 24.
“My first show since American Idol, and it’s at Lucas Oil Stadium opening for (Sheeran),” Rosser wrote on Instagram. “I’m beyond excited and grateful. See you Saturday!”
Meanwhile, Sheeran’s shows at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL, on October 29 and 30 still feature no opening acts—at least as of now.
Sheeran has been performing his Loop Tour solo since the fallout over his previous opening act, Macklemore, having been removed from the tour for his controversial pro-Palestine speech during his set at a stop in New Jersey. Macklemore revealed that Sheeran told him Robert Kraft, owner of Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots, said the rapper would not be allowed to perform at his venue for their upcoming shows there.
“Ed also told me that Kraft had rallied some of the other stadium owners, and collectively they gave him an ultimatum: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you will not be allowed to play in our venues,” Macklemore wrote on Instagram.
Sheeran confirmed the ultimatum in his own statement shortly thereafter, adding that he spoke with Kraft in an effort to “build a bridge.” However, the venues’ decision was final, and the tour’s promoter agreed to remove Macklemore from the lineup.
In protest of the decision to oust Macklemore, Sheeran’s other openers and his backing band dropped out of the tour in solidarity. While Sheeran has continued to perform solo, his scheduled shows at Gillette Stadium were ultimately canceled due to inclement weather.
