Apple Music introduces a new logo alongside its latest software updates, intensifying its competition with Spotify for the top paid DSP in the US.
After Apple debuted a new logo in the press materials and on the official website of its Apple Music Hall announcement last month, speculation abounded as to whether this was a new logo altogether or branding specific to the venue. But now, the logo has been spotted in both beta 3 versions of macOS 27.2 and iOS 27.2, implying that this is a new change for Apple Music across the board.
Notably, the official Apple Music website and the web player still display the old logo, but that should soon change as Apple prepares to roll out its latest software updates. The company is expected to release the software updates to the public later this month, following the release of the iPhone Duo.
Apple has yet to announce any sort of company-wide branding change, so while its appearance in the beta versions of its software signals that the change is forthcoming, the company could still change its collective mind or go with a different logo altogether. However, a new Apple Music logo makes sense, as the tech giant has enacted several interface changes in iOS 27.2.
The timing is apt, given that Apple recently stole the crown from Spotify as the top paid DSP in the United States earlier this year. That said, Spotify reclaimed the lead in subscriber growth after Q2, but it appears that the two platforms will potentially keep flip-flopping for dominance in an intensified dogfight for subscribers.
Meanwhile, the Super Bowl LXI is a mere four months away, and Apple Music may have accidentally leaked some clues as to who the halftime performer will be. Internet sleuths have reposted screenshots of a since-deleted Instagram post with the silhouette of a female singer that many believe to be Miley Cyrus.
That’s sound logic, particularly given the recent passing of music and philanthropy legend Dolly Parton, who was also Miley’s godmother. A halftime show led by Cyrus to pay tribute to Dolly’s legacy seems fitting. Other commentators believe the silhouette to be Britney Spears—but that seems less likely. Ultimately, only time will reveal which artist will succeed Bad Bunny and Kendrick Lamar after their record-setting performances.
