ASU played its most complete game of the season…for a half.
The Sun Devils came out swinging against Colorado in the first half, taking a 17-0 lead after the first two quarters.
Jake Fette caught a touchdown…then delivered a perfect pass to Reed Harris.
Perfect spot for a fantastic throw from Jake Fette to Reed Harris for a TD. https://t.co/pnePRXAOkR

The defense dominated the Colorado offense, holding the Buffs to 103 total yards. Colorado went 0/6 on third down in the first half.
Then, it was just…stagnant.
The offense was not nearly as effective moving the ball. The defense gave up 10 points and were on the wrong side of some penalties that extended Colorado drives. The Devils had built up a three-score lead and were able to still coast to a relatively uneventful win, but the Devils’ next final three oppponents – UCF on the road, Oklahoma State and Arizona on the road – will not allow the Devils to disappear for a hlf.
A few takeaways from this game:
Jake Fette’s Development
Jake Fette continues to settle in as the team’s featured quarterback. The highly-touted recruit has show promise not only in his on-field talent, but in his mindset. There were glimpses of inexperience from time to time…but it was very rare. Those will happen. The hope for coaches and fans is he’ll grow from it.
Early on, he used his legs to make some plays and took great care of the football. Kenny Dillingham said he wants Fette to continue to grow as a dual-threat quarterback by scrambling more vertically than laterally and stepping up in the pocket.
Albert Smith
The defensive end had the best game of his career with three sacks and three tackles for loss. The defensive line was able to create constant pressure throughout the night for Isaac Wilson and his teammates.
Cardae Watch
It may have seemed very unlikely around Week 4 of the season, but the Sun Devils could have another 1,000-yard rusher for the season. Cardae Mack currently sits at 603 rush yards after 80 yards tonight.
It won’t be easy, buy 397 over the final three games (and potentially a bowl game) is very doable.
UCF, Oklahoma State and Arizona are all in the middle of the Big 12 when it comes to rushing yards allowed per game. In conference play, Oklahoma State is giving up over 175 rushing yards per contest.
It’s a tall order, but Mack is certainly capable of eating up yards in bunches.
Rodney Bimage Jr.
The defensive back will likely be done for the year due to an injury he suffered during the game on Saturday, according to Kenny Dillingham. He was carted off the field with an apparent leg injury. Bimage pushed vets Keith Abney and Javan Robinson last year and saw his role grow throughout the year and assumed corneback 1 duties from the start of spring camp last year.
Arizona State heads off the UCF next Saturday. Kickoff time is not yet known.
