Boy George cut his performance short at an ’80s-themed event in Frankfurt after technical difficulties. He alleged sabotage before seemingly walking back that claim.
Boy George continues to make headlines in the weeks following the release of his controversial pro-Israel, AI-assisted song, “We Will Dance Again.” This time, the Culture Club frontman was performing as part of an ’80s-themed event at the Deutsche Bank Park Stadium in Frankfurt, Germany, but called it quits after only three songs.
The reason? Technical difficulties plagued his set, which he alluded to being the result of sabotage. However, he later deleted his comment on social media and explained to his confused followers that he had “enough hate to deal with right now” without posting accusations.
Two days after the set, Boy George responded on X (formerly Twitter) to an article posted by Jüdische Allgemeine, said to be Germany’s only nationwide Jewish weekly publication. Their post read, “Was Boy George sabotaged at a concert in Frankfurt? Technicians are said to have kept turning up his in-ear monitors louder and louder until the British pop star cut his performance short.”
“The truth is I will never know,” the singer wrote in a response. “Lesson learnt. Only work with your own sound people. The first song was a car crash, which was weird because the sound was set earlier in the day so it shouldn’t change,” he explained. “However, you allow for a bit of mess in any opening song, but by song two I had asked them to turn down the sound, but it just got louder and louder. I had to bow out, but I did what I could, and that’s all that matters.”
An earlier post was subsequently deleted, in which Boy George claimed that “big boys on the monitors (…) on stage decided to sabotage my performance” and “I have been doing this for a long time, and I know the stink of sabotage.”
He responded to a fan who posted a screenshot of the since-deleted post: “I posted that and then removed it because, in the end, it will always remain a mystery. Maybe don’t post it! I have enough hate to deal with right now.”
Meanwhile, the “Karma Chameleon” singer remains firm in his convictions. He’s parted ways with label manager Tony Pontius over the latter’s refusal to release “We Will Dance Again” on Boy George’s own BGP (Boy George Presents). He also vowed to fire any member of his band who refuses to play the song.
