Universal Pictures unveils several new casting choices in the upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, including Cynthia Erivo, Zachariah Rogers, and Hercy Miller. The film is due out on August 6, 2027.
It’s been a big week for casting reveals in Universal Pictures’ upcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, which is scheduled for release on August 6, 2027. Craig Brewer is directing the film, which is produced by Brian Grazer (who also produced Eminem’s 8 Mile) and Allan Mandelbaum, both of Imagine Entertainment. Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker are also among the film’s producers.
Jonathan Daviss of Netflix’s series “Outer Banks” will be playing Snoop, and Camron Jones of Amazon Prime’s “Panic” will be playing Tupac Shakur. They will be joined by Cynthia Erivo, who will play Shakur’s mother, Afeni Shakur, a former Black Panther activist and the subject of his iconic hit, “Dear Mama.” Erivo is a Tony, Grammy, and Emmy winner (who also has three Oscar nominations under her belt), best known for her starring role in Universal’s massively successful Wicked films, alongside Ariana Grande.
Basketball player Hercy Miller will make his feature debut as Master P, while Zachariah Rogers of “P-Valley” will portray rapper The D.O.C. Hercy Miller is represented by Social Adam, and Zachariah Rogers by Etcetera and Company and J Pervis Talent. Cynthia Erivo is represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Peikoff Mahan.
Other confirmed cast members include Myles Bullock as Dr. Dre, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, SwayvoTwain as Biggie Smalls, Corey Champagne as Nate Dogg, Lauren London as Snoop’s mother Beverly Tate, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Snoop’s wife Shante Taylor. Actor and comedian TyQuan Givens, “WattsHomieQuan,” is set to play an original character named B. Mack.
Snoop will incorporate music from the rapper’s expansive catalog. Brewer, who most recently directed “Song Sung Blue” for Universal’s Focus Features, is directing the film based on his rewrite of Joe Robert Cole’s original script.
The film also marks the first project under Death Row Pictures’ deal with NBCUniversal. Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Development Tony Ducret will oversee the project for Universal Pictures.
