Will Brown’s difficult weekend at Sandown has gone from bad to worse, with the Supercars star failing to progress beyond the opening phase of qualifying as the championship season draws closer to its conclusion.
After finishing 20th in Saturday’s race, Brown was unable to turn his fortunes around on Sunday, bowing out in Phase 1 of qualifying and leaving himself with plenty of work to do from 19th on the grid.
With the season entering its final stages, the disappointing result comes at a crucial time for Brown, who will now face an uphill battle to work his way through the field.

Whilst Brown struggled, Kai Allen made an impressive start to qualifying, topping the opening phase with a blistering lap of 1:08.174.
Allen finished ahead of Matt Payne, James Golding, Ryan Wood and Cam Waters, who rounded out the top five.
Saturday’s race winner Brodie Kostecki continued his strong weekend, progressing comfortably through to Phase 2 after finishing sixth in the opening session.
Anton De Pasquale, Broc Feeney and Chaz Mostert also secured their places in the next phase of qualifying, although all three finished outside the leading group.

MORE BIG NAMES FALL AS QUALIFYING CHAOS CONTINUES
The drama continued in Phase 2, with more big names falling short of the Top Ten Shootout as Matt Payne set the pace with a blistering lap of 1:07.886.
But for Cam Waters and Chaz Mostert, it was a session to forget, with both drivers failing to progress to the final stage of qualifying.
Mostert was bumped out of the top ten late in the session, finishing 11th and narrowly missing his chance to fight for pole position.
Waters also struggled to find the pace needed to progress, leaving him starting from 18th on the grid for Sunday’s race.
For Payne, De Pasquale, Kostecki and Feeney, it was a different story, with all four securing their places in the Top Ten Shootout as they look to improve their starting positions ahead of the afternoon’s race.

It marks a significant change from Saturday’s qualifying session, when all seven championship finalists progressed to the shootout.
This time around, just four of the seven managed to make it through, setting up an intriguing battle for pole position at Sandown.
PAYNE CLAIMS NINTH POLE OF THE SEASON
Matt Payne proved too strong once again in the Top Ten Shootout, securing his ninth pole position of the season ahead of Sunday afternoon’s race at Sandown.
Anton De Pasquale finished second, with Cooper Murray, Brodie Kostecki and Zach Bates rounding out the top five.
Broc Feeney also made the most of his opportunity, climbing from 10th to sixth in the shootout to improve his starting position.
The result puts Feeney in a stronger position heading into the afternoon’s race, whilst Payne will look to make the most of another pole position as the championship battle continues.
