YouTube Premium is increasing prices worldwide after US price hikes earlier this year that saw the service increase in price by up to $4 a month.
YouTube Premium subscribers in countries across the world are about to see a price hike, Google has confirmed. The service, which doesn’t see as many price hikes as some of its rivals, announced an increase earlier this year in the U.S., where prices rose by up to $4 a month. Now, Google is increasing prices in other countries internationally by about 10 to 15%, depending on the region.
In Finland, prices are increasing from €14.99 to €16.99, while prices in other parts of Europe will change from €13.99 to €15.99. In Romania, the subscription will cost RON 32.00, up from RON 29.00. In Singapore, individual plans will go up to $15.98 from $13.98, while family plans will increase from $27.98 to $31.98.
For YouTube Premium subscribers in the U.S., monthly prices for individual plans increased from $13.99 to $15.99, family plans from $22.99 to $26.99, “Lite” plans from $7.99 to $8.99, and Music Premium from $10.99 to $11.99.
YouTube had not increased its prices for several years, with the family plan upping its cost from $17.99 to a whopping $22.99 back in 2022. Individual plans followed soon after with a $2 price hike in 2023. YouTube Premium Lite has only been available this past year and recently added background play and offline downloads for a lower cost than the full-featured Premium subscription.
Of course, YouTube isn’t the only streaming provider to increase prices, and it’s not exclusive to music streamers. Netflix also raised its subscription prices by $2 earlier this year, its second price hike in less than two years.
Affected YouTube customers will see the price increase starting with their next billing date on or after September 23 and should receive an email outlining the changes beforehand.
