Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has been the organizer behind the Super Bowl halftime show for years, and now it may choose Jay-Z himself to headline in 2027.

Jay-Z has had a banger of a year, commemorating the 30th anniversary of his debut album and the 25th anniversary of his iconic The Blueprint. He sold out every stop of his anniversary concert series, including three nights at Yankee Stadium, back-to-back nights at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a stop at Stade de France, and two shows at SoFi Stadium. An eight-part docuseries about his career launched on HBO last month. And now, his Roc Nation—the organizer behind the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show—has reportedly selected him as the headliner for the 2027 event.

Wait, what?

That’s right. Insiders have confirmed to Deadline that the 25-time Grammy-winning rapper will soon be officially announced as the headliner for the 2027 Super Bowl, set for February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Jay-Z will play two shows there this Friday and Saturday, speculated as the perfect time and place for him to make the announcement official.

However, Jay-Z’s selection of himself as the halftime headliner has already been met with backlash. DJ Akademiks took to Twitter to comment on the rumor, writing, “Now if Jay do what Kendrick and Bad Bunny did with damn near no guests, I’m cutting the TV off. Jay ain’t built like that… He ain’t been musically hot in 10 years… just being honest. He’s a legend, but c’mon.”

Last year, Bad Bunny was the headliner for the Super Bowl halftime show at Levis Stadium in San Francisco, in a performance that featured guests Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin, as well as cameos from actors like Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal. The event drew more than 128 million viewers, only slightly less than Kendrick Lamar’s record-setting headlining set in 2025 with 133 million. Lamar also co-headlined in 2022 in Los Angeles, accompanying Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

So if Jay-Z is headlining, who will join him on stage? So far, speculation has run rampant, with Beyoncé getting a mention (she’s an obvious choice as both his wife and his special guest during the Yankee Stadium leg of his tour), as well as Nas, Pharrell Williams, Lauryn Hill, and Wyclef Jean, all of whom joined Jay on his recent anniversary tour.
