Australia have unveiled their ODI and T20 squads for the upcoming series against England, with as many as eight players in line to make their international debuts on home soil.

Mitchell Marsh will captain both sides when England arrive in Australia, but fast-bowling trio Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have all been rested following the three-Test series against South Africa.

The series will provide a major opportunity for Australia’s next generation to prove themselves ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa.

Mahli Beardman, Jack Edwards, Liam Scott and Ollie Peake have all been named in the ODI squad, whilst Nikhil Chaudhary and Joel Davies have earned T20 selections, with Beardman and Edwards also included in that squad.

For selection panel chair George Bailey, Beardman is one player who has been on his radar, with a long-term view of developing him into an ‘all-format’ player for Australia.

“Mahli Beardman’s recent performances for Australia A were impressive and we are incredibly excited for his return to the national team across the ODI and T20 formats,” Bailey said.

The series will also provide further opportunities for Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green, Matthew Renshaw and Spencer Johnson to put their best foot forward, with competition for World Cup selection set to intensify in the coming months.

FRASER-MCGURK HANDED ANOTHER CHANCE

Jake Fraser-McGurk will also make his return to Australia’s T20 squad after an 18-month absence from international cricket.

The explosive batter last represented Australia against the West Indies, where he was dismissed for just two runs off seven deliveries in a match Australia went on to win by three wickets.

Alongside Fraser-McGurk, Mitch Owen will also return to the squad, with Bailey impressed by the development of both players.

“Jake (Fraser-McGurk) and Mitch (Owen) return to the T20 side and we believe their ball-striking can be a point of difference in the shorter formats,” Bailey said.

“They are good examples of players who have had an opportunity at the international level and have continued working on their game from what they learnt from those experiences.”

With Josh Inglis rested for the T20 series following his century in the third Test against South Africa, the door has opened for either Lachlan Shaw or Sam Harper to make their international debut.

Both players have impressed in recent times, with Shaw captaining NSW’s One-Day Cup side, whilst Harper has continued to build on his impressive BBL campaign last season, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
