The Storm could be set to lose veteran playmaker Cameron Munster, with his camp reportedly puzzled by the club’s recent contract extension offer.

Melbourne powerbrokers reportedly tabled a two-year extension to retain their five-eighth worth around $750,000, marking a significant pay cut from his current deal.

Speaking on Triple M, The Australian’s Brent Read explained the “view” of Munster’s management, with the gun playmaker set to hit the open market come November 1.

“There’s a view in the Munster camp that he is the current Queensland captain, he’s the Australian five-eighth yet he is being asked to take a $350,000 hair cut,” he said.

“That’s why Cameron Munster hasn’t taken that deal and I can understand that view point.

“He wasn’t at his best this season, but he still captained Queensland… it’s a fair hair cut.”

Meanwhile, Harry Grant is also reportedly set to hit the open market according to Read — despite the Storm working overtime to lock him in.

“If anyone is going to go, it’s probably going to be Cam Munster… Munster is going to November 1 and Harry looks like he will,” Read explained.

“The clock is ticking on him, I know Melbourne are working very hard to get a deal done before November 1 but now he is in camp with the Aussie team it is going to make it very hard.

“He’s going to get some big offers, Munster will get some decent money thrown at him too.”

That money could reportedly come from Mal Meninga and the Bears, who are yet to sign a marquee star.

“I’d imagine Perth will… Perth do have money,” Read said.

“They can sign a big-name player… I spoke to someone there yesterday and they said they have money, they can sign a big-name player.

“Perth need players for 2028, they need big names and he is a big name.”

DOGS LAND RISING HOOKER

The Bulldogs have confirmed the signing of rising hooker Jaxson Allen, who has put pen to paper on a fresh two-year deal to join Cameron Ciraldo’s squad.

The 19-year-old will make a cross-town switch from the Roosters, having played 13 NSW Cup games this season — scoring five tries from behind the ruck.

In 2025, Allen captained a premiership-winning Tricolours SG Ball team and also featured for the Blues’ under 19s outfit the same year.

“Jaxson is a crafty hooker with a great running game and high footy IQ,” Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould said in a statement.

“He has enormous potential and we’re excited to watch him continue to develop in the Bulldogs system.”

The Bulldogs’ hooker position has been under the microscope since the club made the decision to allow Reed Mahoney to depart at the end of the 2025 season.

Allen is now set to contend with Bailey Hayward, who took over the No.9 jersey after Mahoney’s exit.

MANLY LEGEND’S RETURN CONFIRMED

The Sea Eagles have welcomed Brent Kite back, confirming the club legend has signed on to join Kieran Foran’s coaching staff.

Kite has been unveiled as Manly’s newest assistant coach, taking up a “key role working primarily with the Sea Eagles’ forward pack”.

He will also have a “particular focus on the club’s middle forwards”, joining after the club began a football department clear-out after they faded out of finals contention.

Three key figures left the club, with leadership manager Aaron Greaves, head of football Peter Gentle and head of performance Jon Clarke all departing.

Kite has previously enjoyed a stint as a coach with the Tweed Coast Raiders, leading them to a Northern Rivers Regional grand final and Clayton Cup double in 2018.

“As a player Brent was extremely tough, brave, smart and his leadership skills were a pivotal part of our success,” Foran said in a statement.

“I think he’ll be really good for our players, especially our forwards. His experience and resilience will bring that extra hard edge to our pack.

“He has Manly blood running through his veins and is hugely respected by the Manly community. It’s great to welcome Brent back to the club.”

Foran and Kite played together for five seasons at the Sea Eagles, winning the Clive Churchill Medal in Manly’s 2008 premiership victory.
