Deadline reports that he filmmaker has set up a new, untitled crime thriller at United Artists (part of Amazon MGM Studios) that will star Denzel Washington, who was last seen in 2025’s ‘Highest 2 Lowest,’ directed by his old pal Spike Lee.
While McQuarrie usually writes or co-writes his movies, he’s this time working from a script by Scott Barkan (‘Edge of Fear’) and Gregg Zehentner (‘Into the Dark’).
What’s the story of the new Denzel Washington/Christopher McQuarrie movie?

The title has yet to emerge, but we do at least know the basic plotline: it follows a former police detective serving a life sentence who is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.
Granted compassionate release with six months to live, he returns home to the estranged daughter he left behind and a grandson he never knew existed. He only wants to make amends and forget his dark past, but his dark past has not forgotten him.
Where else can we see Denzel Washington?
Oscar winner Washington has most recently worked on Fernando Meirelles’ crime thriller ‘The Take,’ which has yet to land a release date but should be out next year.
And while Marvel hasn’t officially confirmed it, he seemingly has a role in Ryan Coogler’s third ‘Black Panther’ outing, due in December 2028.
