The last time we thought about a cinematic return for the DC character John Constantine, it was an update on the long-gestating sequel to the 2005 movie featuring the character, starring Keanu Reeves (more on that lower down the page).
Now, though, Deadline reports that DC Studios has hired ‘Evil Dead Wrath’ writer/director Francis Galluppi to work on a new script.
“Hell wants him. Heaven won’t take him. Earth needs him.”

It’s very early days for this one, and no-one at DC Studios has commented yet (co-chief James Gunn may yet hit social media to confirm or deny) so we’ll see if this turns into something real.

Who is John Constantine?

Nicknamed Hellblazer, John Constantine debuted in “The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37” in 1985. The character, created by writer Alan Moore and artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben, is a working-class British detective with expertise in magic and the occult and a penchant for grift.
In addition to the Reeves movie, Matt Ryan played Constantine on television, leading an NBC series of the same name that aired for just one season, beginning in 2014.
What’s happening with the Constantine movie sequel?
Akiva Goldsman is still writing the script for the follow-up to the 2005 movie, but there has been little forward motion since word landed about it in 2023.
