New Track • Sleep My Life Away. Newport, Wales, UK.

HAIRDYE are a female-led punk trio from Newport, South Wales, featuring Penny on vocals and bass, Tom on guitar and Rhys on drums. Formed in 2024, the band draw inspiration from Californian punk, The Muffs, HotWax and Newport’s own alternative-music heritage, creating a sound built around attitude, immediacy and irreverent energy. Their 2025 debut EP attracted attention from BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio 6 Music, while radio presenter Adam Walton praised their explosive live performance at Horizons. With appearances at Moseley Punk Festival, support slots with The Doll Heads and a place on the Rebellion Festival lineup, HAIRDYE are establishing themselves as an exciting emerging name in Welsh punk.

“Sleep My Life Away” captures HAIRDYE’s youthful punk identity at a moment when the band are moving beyond their first releases and developing a wider audience. Already part of their live repertoire during 2026, the song has also received radio exposure through BBC Introducing in Wales. It reflects the group’s connection to the direct, guitar-driven tradition of punk, where everyday frustrations and personal experiences become material for energetic, uncompromising music.

The title suggests withdrawal, exhaustion and the desire to escape everyday pressures, although its precise lyrical meaning has not been independently confirmed. These themes resonate with the band’s wider interest in the uncertainty of growing up, balancing independence with the realities of adulthood. “Sleep My Life Away” sits naturally within HAIRDYE’s emerging catalogue, combining the attitude of classic punk with the perspective of a younger generation navigating its own frustrations.

HAIRDYE represent a new generation of Welsh punk musicians drawing inspiration from both local musical history and international alternative rock. Their progress from Newport venues to Rebellion Festival and wider UK performances demonstrates how grassroots bands can develop beyond their hometown without abandoning their identity. Their energetic live reputation and support from specialist radio have helped establish an audience for their music.

With a new EP, Too Much Too Quick, approaching its November 7, 2026 launch show in Newport, “Sleep My Life Away” arrives during an important period of development for the trio. Their music reflects the continuing relevance of punk as an outlet for youthful uncertainty, independence and self-expression. HAIRDYE bring a fresh generational perspective to Newport’s punk tradition, transforming everyday frustrations into energetic alternative music.
