Could Guy Ritchie’s crime comedy series ‘The Gentlemen’ be getting a real-life royal addition?

Deadline looked into reports from a royal correspondent that Meghan Markle –– yes, the Duchess of Sussex, who recently announced she and husband Prince Harry were moving their family back to the UK from the States –– is considering an offer to join the Netflix series, which Ritchie co-created based on his 2019 movie.

Markle, of course, was an actor (most notably in legal drama ‘Suits’) before marrying into the British Royal family and focusing (however briefly) on royal life. Frustrated with tabloid pressure and issues within the family, she and Harry moved to Montecito, California and struck various entertainment deals, though none have seemingly worked out all that well beyond some lifestyle and documentary programming.

The rumours emerged as Netflix announced that the show has been renewed for a third season, with filming to commence soon. Though the streaming service, which has yet to give any real official comment on the word of Markle’s potential involvement, is probably in two minds as to whether this is great promotional material for the upcoming second season (see below) or an annoying distraction…

The first season of the series saw Eddie Horniman (Theo James) unexpectedly inherit his father’s sizeable country estate –– only to discover it’s part of a cannabis empire.

Moreover, a host of unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Determined to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game.

However, as he gets sucked into the world of criminality, he begins to find a taste for it, with an unexpected ally found in the sophisticated yet ruthless Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario).

When will ‘The Gentlemen’ be back on our screens?

Netflix has confirmed that Season 2 of the series arrives on September 3. Season 3 –– whether it features Markle or not –– should arrive in 2027.
