Morrissey has canceled his four-date Vegas residency just a week before it was due to kick off. It’s the latest cancellation for the Smiths frontman.
Morrissey was scheduled to perform at the Wynn Las Vegas’ Encore Theater for four nights, starting on Friday, August 14. But the 67-year-old canceled the residency just a week before it was due to begin.
While the former Smiths singer-songwriter hasn’t publicly announced the cancellation, a statement on the Ticketmaster page for the residency confirmed the news. Ticketmaster says that anyone who purchased a ticket through the company will receive an automatic refund to the original payment method within the next couple of weeks.
Currently, the rest of the shows Morrissey has scheduled between September and December across both the U.S. and Europe remain intact. But the cancellations in Vegas mark the latest in a series of nixed shows this year.
In January, he canceled his first scheduled show of the year in California due to a medical issue described as “an adverse reaction to a prescription medication.” In March, Morrissey announced that he would not be appearing for a show in Valencia, Spain, the day it was scheduled. This, he said, was due to his hotel being an “indescribable hell” that left him “unable to rest.”
“Tonight’s scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation,” read a statement at the time. “Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise. The show is not canceled. Circumstances render the show impossible.” Another statement said that “the experience (has) left Morrissey in a catatonic state.”
He also canceled a slew of tour dates last year, including five shows in South America, which he attributed to “extreme exhaustion.” Before that, he canceled two shows in the U.S. and one in Canada, the latter of which was due to a “credible threat” to assassinate him.
This threat was allegedly made by a 26-year-old named Noah Castellano, who wrote on Bluesky on September 4 that he was going to “attempt to shoot (Morrissey) many times and kill (him) with a very large gun that I own illegally.” Castellano was arrested.
