My Chemical Romance settles the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ lawsuit over the band’s use of uniforms that look remarkably similar to the team’s own.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have quickly emerged victorious in their lawsuit against My Chemical Romance over the use of uniforms that look remarkably similar to the team’s iconic fit. However, fans are claiming that the band did not intend to utilize the segment of the show that featured the uniforms beyond the performances in which they already appeared.
The band has two more shows left in their Long Live the Black Parade residency at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl on October 30 and 31, which should feature different uniforms if they opt to do the same performance.
The legal action stemmed from backup dancers wearing lookalike cheerleader outfits. The dancers came onstage and performed a standard routine using pom-poms before they “armed” themselves with prop rifles to “defend” the band against militarized forces as part of the show’s narrative. The segment ended with the dancers being mock-executed in a simulated firefight and crawling offstage.
Silver Star’s lawsuit specifically objected to the use of the uniforms, which they alleged to have caused fan confusion and led to the belief that the actual Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders were involved in the production. They claimed to have issued a cease-and-desist letter to the band on October 22, but the use of the uniforms persisted across two more shows over the weekend.
“On October 26, 2026, I received an email from (attorney) David Byrnes stating that (…) My Chemical Romance ‘will not be performing any remaining shows on its current tour with dancers in the cheerleader costumes your client objects to,’” wrote a lawyer for Pro Silver Star, the company that owns the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ trademark.
On Friday, the company had filed a temporary restraining order and a temporary injunction to bar the band from continued use of the uniform following their first show of the residency earlier in the week. However, My Chemical Romance played three of the five shows at the Hollywood Bowl before agreeing to no longer feature the uniforms.
Though the residency and the North American leg come to a close at the end of the month, the band’s tour continues through November 22, with stops in South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
