AUSSIE CUT BY WARRIORS AFTER WNBA SALUTE
Alex Toohey has been waived by the Golden State Warriors a second time after an off-season stint with the team.
The Warriors on Sunday (all times AEDT) confirmed the Aussie had been cut from their roster along with Tyler Burton and Dalen Terr ahead of the upcoming NBA season.
Toohey, 22, re-joined Golden State in July for the 2026 Summer League. He signed a exhibit 10-day contract with the team in September and appeared in four pre-season games.
It comes after the majority of the former No. 52 draft pick’s first season was cruelled by injury. Toohey appeared in two games for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the NBA G League but none for the Warriors.
He was waived in December after a season-ending knee injury.
The Aussie could yet link up with the Santa Cruz Warriors for the 2026/27 G League campaign.
DURANT FIRES BACK AT SUNS OWNER IN SOCIAL MEDIA CLASH
Kevin Durant has never been one to shy away from social media rants.
The 16-time All-Star didn’t hold back when responding to Suns owner Mat Ishbia’s comment on trading for Durant.
“I kind of just threw money at the problem,” Ishbia said of Phoenix’s deal with the Nets to acquire Durant. “Bringing in super-talented players like Kevin Durant doesn’t necessarily lead to championships.”
Durant didn’t take kindly to those words.
“#blameKD even though KD stayed on top of his game at 36 and got u back this “culture” you love so much. Aye, Matthew acts like I got arrested for a DUI or sumn. Back to threads 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂,” Durant wrote in a post on X.
It didn’t stop there as Durant and Ishbia went back and forth on the social media platform.
“You obviously didn’t watch the clip. 😂Didn’t blame you @Kdtrey5, but am happy with the culture we are building here in Phoenix. We got the right guys and right focus now and are excited for this season. Good luck this season in Houston,” Ishbia said back.
To which Durant responded: “U should be giving Thanks every chance u get. You don’t have to pay me an absurd amount of money to play for another team.”
The Suns parted ways with Durant in July 2025 when they traded him to the Rockets in a seven-team deal. Durant’s tenure in Phoenix was somewhat disappointing given the Suns only won one playoff series and missed the postseason during the 2024-25 season.
The two-time NBA champion averaged 26.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists across 2 ½ seasons with the Suns. Ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, the Suns were secretly shopping Durant and attempted to orchestrate a multi-team trade to send him back to Golden State.
Durant found out about the trade talks from outside parties and admitted he was initially upset after the Suns’ front office caught him by surprise. Since then, the relationship between Durant and the Suns was never the same.
