Rod Stewart is recovering after undergoing a coronary procedure, forcing him to cancel his remaining US tour dates as he takes at least four weeks off.
Over the weekend, Rod Stewart was forced to cancel a performance at the last minute as he was rushed to the hospital for an emergency procedure. Now, it’s been revealed that the 81-year-old is recovering after undergoing heart surgery, meaning he will need to take at least four weeks off from work—and he’s canceled all upcoming dates as a result.
The “Forever Young” singer was scheduled to tour through September 3, with stops that included six Las Vegas residency dates. Ticketholders will receive information regarding cancellations and refunds directly from the respective venues and promoters for the affected shows.
“On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates,” read a statement from his team.
Rod himself added that he is “already feeling better and very much on the mend.” He said he wanted to “thank the doctors, nurses, and everyone who has taken such wonderful care of me.”
“I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon,” he said.
Support has poured in across social media. Fans were concerned when reports earlier in the week indicated the singer was rushed to the hospital; with more details revealed, messages have wished him a speedy recovery with lots of love and prayers.
The “Maggie May” musician was forced to postpone a show in Cincinnati due to an “unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention.” That show was originally rescheduled to Tuesday, August 11, with a spokesperson saying Stewart was “expected to make a quick recovery.”
Rod Stewart embarked on his current tour in March but has had to cancel a slew of shows following a diagnosis with an acute upper respiratory infection, laryngitis, and vocal strain. He also had a health scare earlier this year when he suffered from high altitude and intense heat during a concert in Utah, which briefly required an oxygen tank backstage.
Despite the issues he’s had to overcome, the legendary performer says he has no intention of retiring, and he’s still expected to perform two dates in Colorado in September.
“I still enjoy what I’m doing. I love it,” Stewart said late last year. “You can tell it’s written all over my face. Absolutely love it.”
