What if Jeremy Statham was Batman? And what if the Jeremy Statham Batman stuck a flamethrower into someone’s mouth? The wonderfully absurd “The Beekeeper 2” trailer is here to answer those questions. Like Batman, Statham’s mysterious Adam Clay now has a cool, souped-up car. And like the Zack Snyder DC Extended Universe Batman, he has Jeremy Irons helping him out. (Recall that Irons played the Alfred to Ben Affleck’s Batman in those films.)

“The Beekeeper 2” is, of course, a sequel to the “John Wick”-esque “The Beekeeper,” which had Statham play an assassin taking down a scammer in a conspiracy that went all the way to the White House (!!). (See our “Beekeeper” ending explainer for more on that.) It was an absurd action spectacle in all the right ways, and it looks like the sequel is doubling-down on the absurdity. I can’t wait.

The Beekeeper 2 trailer will make you say ‘hell yeah’

This is pretty much a perfect teaser trailer, folks. While Jason Statham has made some stinkers during his career, “The Beekeeper” is one of his better action flicks because it’s not afraid to get ridiculous. I mean, the main villain of that film is the son of the President of the United States! The movie also teamed Statham up with director David Ayer. Sadly, however, the Statham/Ayer follow-up “A Working Man” is a dud, primarily because it takes itself too seriously.

Thankfully, “The Beekeeper 2” isn’t making that mistake. The sequel is in the hands of filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto, who has helmed some incredible action flicks, including “The Night Comes for Us.” The first film told us that there was a mysterious organization known as Beekeepers, and Statham’s Adam Clay was one of the best. This time around, though, he has to go up against the other Beekeepers, who have, according to Jeremy Irons’ Wallace Westwyld, “gone rogue.”

The stage is set for Statham to go full Batman, complete with his own Batmobile-like supercar and other cool gadgets. (There’s a bit of James Bond in this concept as well.) Throw in a Metallica needle-drop and a moment where Statham shoves a flamethrower into some guy’s mouth, and you’ve got a recipe for success.

“The Beekeeper 2” buzzes into theaters on January 15, 2027.
