Katseye’s Sophia becomes the latest member of the group to take a step back from upcoming promo activities, citing prioritizing her mental health.

Katseye member Sophia Laforteza has become the latest in the group to take a break from Katseye’s upcoming promotional activities. In a post on Weverse, the Filipina-American singer emphasized that she needs to prioritize her “mental health and wellness.”

“Following through consultations with medical professionals, it has been advised that she take dedicated time for extended rest and ongoing care to ensure a full recovery,” reads a statement posted by the group. “While Sophia herself is eager to perform alongside her members, the health, safety, and long-term well-being of our artists will always remain our highest priority.”

In her statement, Sophia added that she’s “heartbroken” over the decision, but “health has to come first.”

“Making this decision wasn’t easy,” she said. “I’m realizing that if I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long.”

“Thank you for being so patient, understanding, and always showing me so much love,” the 23-year-old added. “I promise I’m going to work as hard as I can to get through this, heal properly, and come back stronger.”

“‘Til then, please continue to be kind and give Katseye all your love and support as we fulfill our promise to show up for you in every way we can,” she concluded. “See you soon.”

Sophia was notably absent from the premiere of the “Katseye: Wild Hearts” documentary on Wednesday in Los Angeles. When asked about her absence on the red carpet, fellow member Lara Raj told Variety that Sophia wasn’t feeling well, “but she says hi.”

News of Sophia’s hiatus follows Katseye member Manon Bannerman’s announcement of her own hiatus back in February. The group, which also consists of Daniela Avanzini, Megan Skiendiel, and Yoonchae Jeung, is preparing for the release of its EP Wild, dropping on August 13. That release precedes an upcoming tour in the fall.
