Following WMG’s major staffing shakeups and moves into new regions, Atlantic tees up a partnership with Kakao Entertainment to buoy K-pop artists.
Warner Music Group subsidiary Atlantic Music Group (AMG) has joined forces with Korean entertainment company Kakao to support the worldwide growth of K-pop artists. The two companies will collaborate across a range of areas, including developing global strategies, music production, distribution, marketing, and promotion.
“The partnership brings together a Korean entertainment company with a strong foothold in K-pop and a North American entertainment company with extensive expertise in the global music market to jointly develop global strategies for K-pop artists from the earliest stages,” Kakao’s announcement read.
The two companies plan to combine Kakao’s expertise across the K-pop industry, including music IP development and production, distribution, artist management, marketing, and fan engagement, with Atlantic Music’s artists and repertoire, marketing, and promotion acumen. Combining their strengths, they aim to create new opportunities for K-pop artists across several areas of their global activities.
“This partnership is significant in that it brings together the full capabilities of both companies to jointly identify the potential of K-pop artists and IP and expand their presence in the global market,” Kakao added. “Building on our respective expertise and networks, we will broaden the ways K-pop connects with its global fandom and continue to expand its global influence.”
“We expect that by combining Kakao Entertainment Corp.’s expertise in the K-pop business with AMG’s global network and ability to develop artists, we can work together to help artists grow,” AMG said.
AMG is a global outfit that includes Atlantic Records, 10K Projects, and 300 Entertainment. The company has expanded its influence in the global music market through its work with major artists like Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Charli XCX, Cardi B, Coldplay, Charlie Puth, and Blackpink’s Rosé.
Kakao has its fingers in a broad range of entertainment pies, including music production and distribution, artist management, television production, and even web cartoons. Its music division includes labels like Edam Entertainment and Starship Entertainment.
The news follows major staffing changes at Warner Music, as well as the company’s expansion into rapidly growing music scenes in the Middle East and North Africa.
